A lot of people want the Verizon iPhone, but chances of Apple launching one this year are very slim.
The photo above is a prototype of the new iPhone 4G hardware with iPhone OS 4.0 software which Apple is releasing in June. The iPhone 4G prototype has a micro-sim slot which means that it won’t be available on Verizon. According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple will have two iPhone’s this summer so there could potentially be a Verizon iPhone but it would be on Verizon’s CDMA network instead of 4G network.

Apple does not need to launch on Verizon, since they’re already getting a lot of revenue with AT &T and iPhone sales. Verizon needs the iPhone because it would make them become very huge, but it could also mean bad news for AT&T. If Verizon gets the iPhone, AT&T may loose a lot of customers to Verizon. We don’t know if AT&T renewed their contract with Apple yet, but if they did then this means Apple can’t launch the iPhone on Verizon. If we don’t get a Verizon iPhone this year, analysts estimate 2011 will definitely be the year for Verizon iPhone launch.
