Brazil national team coach Dunga has shared his motives behind some of the call-ups for the World Cup finals.
The former Fiorentina midfielder has named a 23-man squad for the tournament in South Africa this summer.
Dunga, who will guide Brazil in a World Cup for the first time, has left out some influential players, such as Adriano, Ronaldinho and Alexandre Pato.
Although Adriano has been in scintillating form for Flamengo, Dunga believes the former Inter striker has not fully convinced him that he can deliver at a top level just yet.
"You have to watch the player at the Selecao," Dunga said at a press conference. "The player at the club and at the Selecao is not the same.
"Adriano had a number of opportunities to recover from a bad situation but the time arrived when we had to make the best and rational decision for the group."
Instead of Adriano, Dunga has called up Wolfsburg striker Grafite, who the Brazil coach has a lot of faith in.
"There are players that are on the pitch for five minutes and take advantage of that opportunity. Grafite did that and he is similar to Adriano," he added.
Despite pressure from the press to include Neymar and Paulo Henrique in his list for South Africa, Dunga has opted to keep the Santos pair at home as he aims to win the competition rather than allow young players to develop.
"Why weren't people asking in December? Or in January, or in February. People said I had to call them up to give them an experience and prepare them for 2014," he said.
"But I have to win now. I joked with [assistant coach] Jorginho saying that if that's right, I have to call our sons to give them experience. They are very talented players, but they were substitutes at Santos at the end of the Brasileirao in 2009.
"You don't know how those players will react in the World Cup."
Real Madrid star Kaka has endured a frustrating first season in the Spanish capital, but Dunga has reiterated his full support for the 28-year-old playmaker.
"He was accustomed to Milan and the life there. He had to adapt to a new life in Madrid and with a lot of pressure to perform," he noted.
"Then he got injured and came back recently. It's normal for him to struggle a little, but we trust him completely."
Dunga has also justified his decision to pick players who have not been first-team regulars at their respective clubs.
"It's simple. Julio Baptista is a reserve because there is a player called [Francesco] Totti, who is the king of Rome that plays at that position.
"About Doni, he had a fight with the club to be in the Selecao to face England. Because of that, he was penalised at Roma. I can't forget about him. If I do that, the other players will feel that I was not fair to him, and will question if I will be unfair to other players," Dunga concluded.
