South Africa 1-1 Mexico

World Cup host South Africa has been held to a 1-1 draw against Mexico, after taking the lead before the eyes of 85,000 fans at Soccer City in Johannesburg.
Siphiwe Tshabalala unleashed an unstoppable strike 10 minutes into the second half to give the hosts the lead in the opening match of Group A.
Rafael Marquez scored the equalizer for Mexico in the 79 minute after some poor defending by South Africa.
Mexico started the match better and scored in the 37 minute, but Carlos Vela's strike was ruled offside the match official, Ravshan Irmatov.
Dos Santos came close for Mexico in the second half but was denied by South African goalie Itumeleng Khune.
South African midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala, who scored the opener, was named the man of the match.
